Full Digipack and Advert

This is our complete Digipack, full with inlays and credits and our magazine Advert promoting our digipack.

The recurring themes we used was the autumn leaves as well as the grand piano. All the images were taken in one photoshoot on a sunny autumn day on a field. We did not make use of many filters or effects as we wanted it to be simple and more classical.

Feedback on our Digipack

Throughout the process of creating our digipack we received a lot of feedback from friends, teachers and classmates who all gave their opinions on what we could do in terms of themes, filters and fonts etc.
Because we wanted to make sure that our digipack was specific for target audience which was 12-21 female year olds, we had to ensure that the digipack targeted this group and gave it a little extra.
We also had to fit the digipack with our genre which was Pop Singer-Songwriter.

The Evolution of our Digipack

This was the first cover that we created, the feedback we got was that the cover background was more of a "Dance" genre. This was enhanced by the glowing font on "Patrick Fusi" which was said to be more like a David Guetta dance club album.
Following the feedback on our first cover we decided to completely change it and use a different background with a wooden floor and a Sketchup filter. This was so that the front cover would link with our back cover which the first did not.The feedback we got was that it was better but it looked more like a cartoon and again it did not look like a Pop Singer-Songwriter cover.

We therefore entirely changed the cover again following the feedback and went for the autumn leaves theme. The feedback we got was that this was the best cover we created as it looked more professional and more natural. Some people did not like how the previous covers were edited so much and preferred the simplistic approach that we have taken below.

Overall we were happy with the final outcome and glad that we listened to our audience feedback!

Magazine Adverts Research

As well as our digipack, we have to create a magazine advert to promote our artist's digipack to our target audience.  There are many features in an advert that we will have to include :

  • Digipack cover
  • Artist name
  • Release date
  • Where to order/pre-order
  • Reviews
  • Website links
  • Facebook pages
  • Record label
  • Company logos
  • Sponsor logos

Album adverts also link with the digipack in the sense that the images and colour scheme are similar. This contributes to the overall image of the artist and clearly defines to the audience what the genre is. We will try and do something similar with our advert as we have taken many pictures in the same locations.

Album adverts are there to promote the product in order for record labels to make money. Therefore the advert has to give an incentive for customers to buy it. Some things that we could include are a possible discount code or exclusive content.

Here we see in the poster above there are many website logos where the album can be purchased. This makes the overall process easier for the customer. It also outlines the different guest artists that collaborated on the album which is an example of intertexuality.

Audience Feedback on our video

We recently showed our music video in our school assembly to get feedback from the rest of our sixth form college. To get our data we gave them 4 questions to answer that we felt were relevant and simple to answer.

The questions were:

1. How authentic do you think our music video is? (1 being very authentic, 5 not authentic at all)
2. What did you like most about our video?
3. Do you understand the narrative?
4. Do you have any constructive criticism about our music video?

Analysis of Jay-Z's Hits Collection Digipack

I have created a video narrating the different features of a digipack and how it complements a track's music video.

This Jay-Z digipack has many distinct features;
- hardback case , styled to be like a book
-  CD with 14 of Jay-Z's biggest hits
- 32 exclusive photographs depicting Jay-Z's life and career
-  bonus disc featuring never before released tracks
- personal written message from Jay-Z himself explaining his choice of songs and giving a background story to the content
- credits insert noting the different artists and producers

In conclusion, we will have to ensure that our digipack clearly complements the video that we create. We can use the features that I have mentioned in the video and this is to ensure that we target the right audience relating to genre.

    Audience Research - Online Survey

We created an online questionnaire in order to thoroughly research our audience. We chose suitable questions which we feel will give us an idea into who our audience is. We will analyse the results next week. I will be sharing this survey online to try and get as much feedback as possible.

    Plans For Audience Research

Because we have to create a digipack and a music video for our artist, it is essential for us to know the audience that we are aiming this product at. Therefore we need to plan how we will research our audience.

    Surveys

Last year we used Survey Monkey which allows you to create an online questionnaire which can then be shared across many social media platforms. We will use this to create a survey asking various questions like "What are your hobbies?" etc.
This will give us the feedback we need in order to create our star image and tailor it to our audience.

    YouTube
I plan to look at YouTube comments and statistics for research. This is a good resource for us as we can feedback on what people like or do not like about particular songs or videos.

    Facebook

Facebook is another good site for researching into our audience as we can create pages or send direct messages to hundreds of people at once. This allows us to get a variety of opinions into what our typical audience for our genre is.

    Interviews
We will go out and find people who are particularly fond of the Pop genre and interview them of what they expect in a digipack and music video. We will also ask specific questions relating to Singer Songwriters in order to get  in depth research into what they expect to see.
